Ignoring specific software updates is a bit different now in modern versions of OS X now that updates are handled by the Mac App Store. From OS X El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion and onward, if you don’t want to install an update you will need to hide it from being visible within the Updates tab of the App Store itself.

Ultimately the new ignoring updates option is quite easy to use however, so you won’t find it difficult to either hide or later unhide any given update available to OS X this way.

This works to ignore entire system software updates, even major versions like Yosemite, or minor point release updates of OS X system software too.

And of course you can hide the updates that don’t apply to you using this method as well, like some of the more obscure updates that are pushed to all Macs despite not necessarily applying to all Mac users.

The update will disappear from the list found in App Store Updates.

Just bought the revue and like many of you would love to be in love with it. I cannot seem to get my top 10 list on netflix to update on the revue.

I really hate the user interface of the netflix application, but no much can be done there.

I would just simply like to be able to add a movie to my instant que from the computer (since there is no search function on the revue app) and pull it up on the revue. PS: seems like such a waste of an app to have a nice handy keyboard and then load a piece of crap netflix app with no search function.

I mean who really makes these apps and why even stick it on a box like this without keyboard support?

If you have second thoughts and want to show all the available updates again though, it’s not too difficult to undo your action and reveal all updates available to OS X again: With the updates list refreshed you will find all the available software updates available again.

Hidden updates are also always visible from the command line, if you’d rather install them outside of the App Store you can do so.

As mentioned above, this hide/unhide ability only applies to system software updates and updates from Apple for core services.
